Cobra H.I.S.S. Driver

Code Name:

The Enemy

Desimone Guide: #21

Tomart's Guide: #GI5161b

HISS Driver's Filecard

Figure Description

The Cobra H.I.S.S. Driver was released as part of the second series (1983), packaged exclusively with the Cobra H.I.S.S Tank (High Speed Sentry).

H.I.S.S. Driver and the H.I.S.S. Tank were also sold in 1984. The H.I.S.S. Driver was no longer available in stores in 1985.

In 1989, the H.I.S.S. Driver was packaged with five other figures in the "Special Missions Drivers" set available through mail-order from Hasbro Direct.

Versions of H.I.S.S. Driver:

This version of H.I.S.S. Driver was the only one ever released.

Accessories:

H.I.S.S. Driver came with no accessories.

Variations:

No variations of the H.I.S.S. Driver are known to exist. [SEE BODY CONSTRUCTION BELOW]

There are two versions of H.I.S.S. Driver's filecard. The one that came from Hasbro Direct has a glossy red backing, while the one that came with the H.I.S.S. Tank does not.

Body Construction:

With the exception of his waistpiece, H.I.S.S. Driver's body construction is completely original. The waistpiece was originally used by both the Cobra Soldier and Cobra Officer.

The head, torso, arms, and legs of H.I.S.S. Driver were re-used to create Rip It (2000).

Note that the Cobra logo on the H.I.S.S. Driver's chest is made of a silver paint that easily scratches off. A mint-condition H.I.S.S. Driver has a sharp silver Cobra logo - ones that lack the Cobra logo have been played with.

Note that the figure's head only turns left and right - it does not allow the head to look up and down. The heads only turned left and right until the the swivel ball head that was introduced in 1985 (Series Four).

International Variants:

In the United Kingdom and Europe, H.I.S.S. Driver was renamed Enemy Trooper and released with the Escape Armour.
