While it's very difficult to pin a specific year to a specific version of Steel Brigade, this version began shipping in 1989 and its variants continued shipping through 1992.

This version of Steel Brigade came with a gray rifle, a green backpack, and the Steel Brigade patch.

The same backpack and patch were available with other versions of Steel Brigade.

A black recolored version of the rifle was earlier available with Airborne. The backpack was originally colored tan and available with Airborne, Duke, and the Battle Gear Accessory Pack #1. Tiger Force Duke also came with a green version of the backpack but is a slightly darker green; while Gold Steel Brigade came with a very bright green backpack. Beware of these accessories as they are not the original accessories that came with this version of Steel Brigade.

Some later versions of Steel Brigade came with the accessory pictured above, a recolored version of the rifle available with Recoil.

Some versions of Steel Brigade came with no rifle.

The markings and date stamps on the figures were also varied.
