Figure Description:
Ryu was released carded in the twelfth series (1993) as part of Capcom's Street Fighter 2 subset. The Street Fighter 2 figures were numbered 1 through 12 - Ryu was number 1.
He was discontinued domestically in 1994.

Versions of Ryu:
A Street Fighter Movie version of Ryu was released in 1994, but the Street Fighter Movie figures are not considered G.I.Joe figures.

Variations:
There are no known variations of Ryu.

Body Construction:
While Ryu had a new head, the rest of the mold was originally used to create Slice (1992). The entire Ryu mold was also used to create Ryu (v2) (1993).
Ryu's body was designed with a "Dragon Punch." Ryu's spring-loaded right arm could be pushed back, then released, causing it to spring forward in a punching motion.
Note that there are two cloth ribbons attached to Ryu's right hip.
