Pictured above is a preproduction version of Dial Tone (v7) as the figure appeared at the 2002 G.I.Joe Collector's Convention in Norfolk, Virginia.

Notable differences include a slightly different stripe pattern, a green undershirt, all silver grenades on the chest, and a belt that matches the color of the strap on his chest, which is brown. The equipment on his right hip is brown, the equipment on his upper right arm is blue while the left arm instead has silver detail, and the knife on his left boot is black. But more notably, the hair is black instead of brown.

It should also be noted that the skin tone is closer to the original variation rather than the second.
