1984 G.I.Joe Figures

This commercial introduces several new 1984 G.I.Joe action figures - Recondo, Blowtorch, Ripcord, and Mutt - and the three playsets - the Bivouac, Watch Tower, and Mountain Howitzer.

Note the voices of Destro and the Cobra Commander used in the commercial were voiced by Arthur Burghardt and Christopher Latta - the voices of the characters from the cartoon. This is a major shift from the previous years - a sign of how important the voice actors were becoming in terms of character recognition. From this point on, the voice actors from the cartoon were used whenever possible to make the characters more identifiable.

Also very interesting is that this is the first G.I.Joe toy commercial that does not feature boys actually playing with the toys. Another sign that selling G.I.Joe had taken a shift towards showing the characters from the cartoon and not showing actual boys playing with them.

Marvel Comics G.I.Joe #24

This animated television commercial prominently featured several new 1984 G.I.Joe action figures - Duke, Roadblock, Spirit, and Storm Shadow - and two new light vehicles - the Cobra CLAW and the G.I.Joe Skyhawk. The animation was re-used for the corresponding toy commercial.
